Five most frequently asked questions about cigars

We at Cigar Conexion are cigar aficionados, and we have to spread awareness on cigar smoking for people who have just commenced this incredible journey. So if you are new to cigar smoking, what are you waiting for? This is all that you have ever looked for! Avoid making cigar-related mistakes. Always choose the perfect cigars for any occasion and fall in love with them!

1) What are the best cigars for beginners to start with?

With such a wide variety to choose from, it can often be overwhelming to choose the perfect first cigar for yourself. The vastly popular Abel Exposito  cigars, which are mild and provide notes of sweet cream and caramel, are one of the best to start with. These cigars are pretty palatable and thus can be easily cherished by both cigar enthusiasts and novices. You may also start with other mild cigars such as Alfambra Classic  or  Vedado Habano. Mild cigars are easily recognizable by their light wrappers. You can then work your way up to medium or full-bodied cigars.

2) How to save over humidified or dry cigars?

Maintaining cigars at 70ºF allows for proper aging and avoids the risk of mold or insects. Cigars rot in hot conditions. To save over humidified cigars, you can add cedar strips to the humidor, which helps maintain optimum temperatures. Never leave the humidor open as it dries the cigars out due to temperature fluctuations. Another thing to consider is the cigar to humidor ratio. If you store a few cigars in a large box, the cigars will over humidify and vice versa.

3) How do I protect my humidor and cigars from beetles and bugs?

Beetle larvae can occur naturally in tobacco. These larvae hatch at over 72º and destroy good-quality cigars. To combat this, keep a sharp eye on your humidor’s temperature and perhaps install a beetle trap too. Beetle larvae can also be killed by freezing cigars for over three days. After that, cigars can be re-exposed to humidification lest they develop cracks. In perfect condition, cigars can be stored for up to 100 years. Blue mold on cigars usually means they are moldy as opposed to white powder, which is natural. 4) What is the best cutter for cigars?

V cutters are immensely popular for thinner cigars. However, cigars with guillotine cutters work better when cigars have a larger gauge as they slice through it more evenly. Wedge cutters can also be imprecise with large cigars, so there is a risk of damaging a cigar. Punch cutters are also becoming popular recently, which provides a smooth draw as some connoisseurs enjoy them in that manner.

5) How can you tell when a cigar is done?

Cigars are generally smoked half or two-thirds of the way down, as the more you smoke a cigar, the more its flavor changes. Moisture also tends to develop on the cigar head, which sometimes ruins the flavor of the cigar. However, it is entirely subjective and depends on the individual.

These are all the tips we have for you! So now that you know most about proper cigar maintenance, stock up on your cigar essentials from Cigar Conexion. Choose from an elegant range of humidors, ashtrays, and other accessories and smoke away to your heart’s content!
